GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 3rd. August, 1912.
Referring to Sir F. Lugard's Despatch No. 248
of the 28th. September, 1908, I have the honour to transmit the enclosed copy of a letter from the members of the Survey Staff applying for increase in their emoluments and of a letter from the Director of Public Works on the subject.

of the Staff were readjusted in 1908 the attraction to remain in
the Department has still been to week.

I consider, therefore, that a further re- -adjustment is desirable and I have to recomend the following:-
1 Principal Land Surveyor 2510 to £540 by £30 after
three years with Duty Pay of £60 12 months after attaining maximum.
2 First Grade Surveyors: £450 to £480 by £10 an ually
with Duty Pay of £40 as above.
2 Second Grade Surveyors on permanent staff: £360 to
£420 by £10 annually with Duty Pay of £40 as above.
In view of the recent re-adjustment in 1908 of the increases which
the Staff will enjoy under the above scheme I do not recommend that Duty Pay should be granted at present.
4.
I cannot recommend any increase to the Staff
at present wider Agreement beyond making their increments £10
annually.
any case it will be some
